How much do you value your life?
It is hard to understand how to even measure value. Is it a scale or spectrum, or measured in units?
This is the part of value that is interesting: whatever we think it is, God multiplies infinitely. Beyond our own understand even, Thankfully.
Most of the time our society likes to talk about the value of life postmortem. Truth is, postmortem life is THE singular value of the mortal life.
One of the biggest fears of a non-christian is the notion that they have to do a bunch of things to get to Heaven. Christians (should) recognize that we cannot do anything to get to heaven. Most people on some level acknowledge the mandatory existence of a God. Statistics and probabilities all point away from science (the irony that math, when unfolded, points away from science, a study built on math, is for another time). What is the value of NOT accepting God? Is it worth the risk? Furthermore, and maybe the largest concern of Christians and non-Christians alike: What value do you have to the Lord, ONCE you’ve accepted Christ?
None. And Infinite.
Depends on how you compete for his Namesake. If you can figure out how to value the Lord like HE values us, then you can actually let him add value to your life. That is to say that YOU cannot add value to your own life without first seeking Him; and then, when HE adds value to your life, then your value is His. Now regardless of your measurement system, that has to fire you up.
God likes to explain His value to our lives in ways that we naturally understand: 2 Timothy 1:7 talks about how the Spirit of God gives us Power, Love and Self-Discipline. If your power is not accompanies by Love and Self-Discipline, then it is not of the Lord, not holy, and does not demonstrate the value of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2 talks about that same spirit as the Spirit of Wisdom and understanding, Counsel and might, knowledge and FEAR of the Lord. If your Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Might and knowledge isn’t accompanied by Fear of the Lord (which is not surprising, Proverbs comes before Isaiah); then it is not of the Lord, and needs to be checked.
So what is the value of your life? Completely equal to the depths of your understanding of His heart since your value is equal to that amount you let the Spirit take hold of you. Value that is measurable mildly in earthly characteristics, but I challenge you here: if when Jesus came back all he wanted to talk to us about was how we talk to others about Him (Matthew 28:16-20); what are we supposed to learn about the Value of His Resurrection?
In true paradox, Darwin unknowingly supports God here (further proof that out of context anything is useful), “A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of his life.” and a thought from C.S. Lewis, “Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art…It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.”
John 15:13, Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for another.
